Jayaraj and Fenix dying has created an outrage on social media with celebrities and netizens demanding justice for them and their household. Following the incident, 5 policemen together with an inspector and two sub-inspectors have been suspended. Now, director Hari, who is understood for making cop-centric movies, condemned the custodial deaths of P Jayaraj and his son Fenix. He stated that he regrets making movies that glorified the police power. As per Information Minute, he wrote a letter dated June 28 which reads, “The one means for that’s to punish all these concerned with the best sentence. The violation by some within the police power has introduced dishonour upon your entire power. I’m deeply saddened in the present day for having made 5 movies glorifying the police.”

Hari’s filmography that features police power are Saamy (2009), Saamy Sq. (2018) in addition to Singham collection with Suriya within the lead.

Earlier, celebrities similar to Priyanka Chopra, Riteish Deshmukh, Taapsee Pannu condemned the custodial deaths of Jayaraj and Fenix.

Jayaraj and Bennick had been booked for not closing their cell store as per the lockdown norms on June 19. They had been remanded to the custody and lodged within the Kovilpatti jail on June 21. They died on June 23 in Kovilpatti hospital. Their relative alleged that they had been severely thrashed at Sathankulam police station by police personnel.
